From Athens With Love

We are entirely, unashamedly devoted to all things Greek. Every summer, without fail, at some point or another, I return to the same magical islands and feel not even slightly bored by our choice.

So when I heard that Taverna Ermou was opening in London, the excitement was palpable.

Taverna Ermou was born at Ermou 98 in the heart of Athens, in a place that feels as though it has always been there. Now it has a second home on James Street in Marylebone and somehow it has brought the sun, the soul and the food with it. Even on a grey London day.

The idea is a beautifully simple one: the Athenian neighbourhood taverna as it used to be. Not a destination, or a concept. Just a place where people came, morning, afternoon, evening, because the doors were open and the welcome was genuine. Tables filled slowly. Food was shared without asking. Wine arrived without much ceremony. And everyone just had a lovely time.

That is precisely what they've recreated here, which is rather wonderful.

The kitchen stays true to tradition, our favs are the Pita Bread with Tzatziki, Keftedes Meatballs, the dreamy Spanakopita Dip, Fried Calamari, charred octopus, Beef Stew, Crab Giouvetsi, oh and who doesn’t love a traditional Greek chip! This is deliciously tasty, authentic Greek food, Sharing is not optional. It is the entire point.
